Interview with eidolic :iconeidolic:

Thank you for taking your time with the interview for AllArtSupport.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack:  1. Tell us a few words about yourself.

eidolic :bulletred: Well I’m 26 years old and I’m originally from Minnesota. I have my degree in wildlife biology and I currently travel the US working seasonal jobs for the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service. Because of that I really don’t have a place I call home at the moment. I kind of live out of my pickup truck. Haha.
I wouldn’t trade it for anything however. I love working with wildlife and I get inspiration for my art every day at work. When I’m between jobs and whenever I have some spare time I paint and draw as much as I can. I would love to have a career as an artist, but I figure that’s something I have my whole life to work on. So I keep telling myself to be patient

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 2. What is the story behind your nickname?

eidolic :bulletred:My nickname is a funny thing. I came up with it because when I was younger, about 10-12 years ago, I wanted to be a graphic artist. I taught myself some 3D modeling and photoshop tricks and I created digital art. Some of it was really strange. But, I came up with this idea to call myself eidolic and start a website I think it was maybe just the time computers were exploding and I was really fascinated by the power of them. After a while, I just stuck with it. I’ve actually wanted to change it many times!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 3. Which are the reasons you have made an account on Deviantart? Which are your expectation?

eidolic :bulletred: I guess like I said I originally created a DA account because I wanted to share my digital art. I actually had an account before this one I started back in 1999, which is really funny to look at. I don’t want to share. Haha! After a while though, my traditional art took over and I just love getting feedback and sharing what I have. I don’t really expect to get a lot out of having my account here, I just enjoy keeping it up and viewing other people’s art. I get inspired here often.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 4. Could you name some of your favorite artists (painter, musicians, writers, etc)?

eidolic :bulletred: Jim, James, and Robert Hautman are my three favorite artists. One of my most memorable childhood memories is buying one of their winning federal duck stamps when my Father was taking me duck hunting up at our cabin and I remember wanting to be just like them. I have a pretty equal like for a lot of artists out there, but that’s the only real special connection I have with an artist. I love their paintings.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 5. When and how did you start experimenting with your artistic side?

eidolic :bulletred: I think I started experimenting with my artistic side when I began to draw funny caricatures of all my teachers at school. I would draw one in a single period and show it to all my friends. We laughed a lot at the expense of our teachers because of that. I filled my notebooks at school with sketches like that.

A Spark of Life by eidolic

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 6. What does “ART” mean to you?

eidolic :bulletred: That’s always been a question that I don’t know how I could answer that. I think it’s something that can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. If I had to answer, it’s something you create to share with others for their enjoyment. Also for your own enjoyment.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 7. What influences do you have ?

eidolic :bulletred: I am influenced by a lot of things I think. Mostly, things in nature influence me on a daily basis. I have seen so much in the wild that has affected me that I think that’s my biggest influence in life. The wilderness is my own cathedral. That’s where I can go to worship. I think I’m also influenced by others who live the same type of lifestyle. Perhaps other, more experienced biologists.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 8. What inspires You?

eidolic :bulletred: This is kind of the same answer as in the last question, but I’m inspired by Mother Nature. One example is I remember watching these elk where I worked endure one of the hardest winters of the century. There was over 3 feet of snow on the ground and temperatures below -30 degrees Fahrenheit at times. These small herds of elk would create like their own lawn so to speak where they beat down a small section of the snow where they could find some grass and lay down during the day to try and capture some of the sun’s heat. That is one of the most inspiring things to me.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 9. What kind of equipment do you use?

eidolic :bulletred: For my artwork, I use the cheapest paint brushes I can find because I always ruin them. I use mechanical pencils whenever I’m drawing. I paint on gessobords with golden acrylic paints. I also own an airbrush that I have been incorporating into my work to help me with some of the smooth areas. Then I also have a cheap fold up table and desk lamp where I do my work on. That’s about it. If I am drawing, It’s usually done in front of the TV.

Green Wings by eidolic

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 10.  Of your own work, which has the most meaning to you and why?

eidolic :bulletred:  The piece of art that has the most meaning to me is the drawing I titled “Rainy Days.” It’s a drawing of a whitetail buck in the rain. It means a lot to me because it’s one of the first times I really took a drawing very seriously. So in a way it kind of marks the start of my artistic career. It also reminds me of growing up around our cabin in Wisconsin where we loved the whitetail deer!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 13. What advice would you give to other Deviants?

eidolic :bulletred: My advice to other Deviants would be to not forget what’s really important. Deviantart is an awesome concept and a fun thing to be a part of, but don’t let it get the best of you. Remember that sharing art, learning, and supporting others is what it’s all about, nothing more. And of course, never get frustrated with your artistic endeavors! You can always improve!

A Minnesota Morning by eidolic

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: 14.  Is there anything else you would like to add?

eidolic :bulletred:  ILife is way too short. At the end of day you should be happy with what you did with that day, because before you know it, it’ll be too late.
