Exhale, AmaryllisMid-summer heatwave,LadyofGaerdon
I push through humid air,
like dreams of swimming, graceful,
through the streets.
Chest aching, I
inhale heavy, tangible air
thick with scent of summer's bounty.
Honeysuckle vines tangle in my lungs,
perfume my breath.
My sighs exhale nectar
past my lips;
words glint in sunlight.
Berry brambles twist into my veins,
thorns prick for blood from inside-out;
honey-suckle oxidized breath,
painting white blossoms red:
My heart was a pure-white bloom once,
but I inhaled arrows of golden sunlight
and bled forth Amaryllis.

Man, I feel bad for writers. Everyone picks the photos or paintings because it's easier to judge by looking at it, and some people don't even want to take the time to read the poems or stories written by these authors.
To be quite honest, I think it might be a little unfair to let the members judge writers and visual artists side by side, because not all members will take the time to read the beautiful things written by the authors, as I said, and it makes for an unfair judgement. Heck, I don't even always read what they write, because I'm either too lazy or I'm off doing other things for the moment and wanted to just "vote on this poll real quick".
It's pretty noticeable that the writing is usually one of the least voted on, I believe.
How does the judging process work? Do you take the top three votes and judge them yourselves based on quality and all, or do you just let the people decide and take whoever's in first in the poll and make them Artist of the Week?
I think there should be a separate poll for "Author of the Week", personally. Even though I really love the idea of including photography, painting, writing, and all forms of art into consideration... It isn't exactly common for the writer to get the most votes. "Visual Artist of the Week" and "Author of the Week" should be separate, OR at least separate polls, and then the first place in each poll gets judged by an admin of the group to see which one would be Artist of the Week.
:C I dunno, I'm not trying to rant, I'm just making a suggestion. I feel a little bad for the authors that can't get their work in first place, simply because it takes a little more time for a person to read and admire it.
