Interview with FrozenNote :iconfrozennote:

Thank you for taking your time with the interview for AllArtSupport.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Hello Ugne, please tell us a little bit about you. How did you discover your passion for Polymer Clay Designs?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Hello hello! I'm Ugne, an 18 year old from Lithuania! I just finished my last year of school and now I'm eagerly waiting to continue my studies in England, so I guess I'm still a student!

My passion for polymer clay was discovered accidentally... I needed an idea for my best friend's gift. I then stumbled upon a tutorial for tiny cakes, then a few more... And well, from that it all started!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Which are the reasons you have made an account in deviantART? What do you expect from it?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Oh, I've had this account way before I started working with polymer clay! Back then it had nothing; I just used to favorite awesome things and sometimes upload really awful Photoshop creations! :D I made an account well...because everyone had it, haha. But right now I just hope I can grab myself some attention here from other deviants.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Could you name some of your favorite artists? (Painters, musicians, writers, etc.)

FrozenNote :bulletred: I may sound un-cultured (if that's even a word!), but I don't really have any favorite famous people. I admire young artists rather, like DragonsAndBeasties or allim-lip and so on...

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Your unique pieces have very realistic textures, how do you manage to mimic real life objects in your creations?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Oh they are far from being realistic, at least how I'd want them to be. I'm still learning. Usually many tools I find around the house help, as well as experimenting.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Please walk us a little bit through your process. How does one of your pieces come to life?

FrozenNote :bulletred: It depends on what I want to do, since I'm always learning new crafts! But speaking of polymer clay creations, the process is this:
First, I need to sculpt my creation. This includes mixing the colors I need, shaping the clay, texturing, adding chalk shading if needed and so on. After this my creation, along with many others (to save electricity) are thrown into the oven for 20-30 minutes. Then I let my stuff cool off and once again, it depends on what I'm doing - I may need to firstly paint my creation with acrylics, and if not - I just throw on some glaze and leave it to dry. Then it's time for findings (if needed). And finally, the photography and editing, which takes FOREVER because I don't have the best camera for this sort of job. And voila! Done!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: You have an Etsy store, how has your experience been with it so far?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Opening and Etsy store was seriously one of my life's best decisions. Since I'll be moving in just a few months, I need to save up money so I don't sit on my parent's backs for long, and the Etsy store has been more help than I thought it would... Sure, sometimes I have problems with customers and the post office, but it's all still worth it.

AllArtSupport How does it affect your artistic passion when your creativity needs to focus on the order you must ship out?

FrozenNote :bulletred: I have to admit, I kind of dislike custom orders. It's not that it kills my creativity (usually...), but it's just that I'm always afraid I don't see the order like the customer does. I'm always afraid that they won't like it. That's why I never take custom orders I know I won't be able to pull off, and take all others still very cautiously... Believe me, if you order something from me, you'll get a large amount of questions headed your way immediately.

When it comes to re-making what I already made, however, it only gets worse with time. I have some items that many people like (Nutella rings, Invincibility Starts from Mario, etc.), that I have to make quite a few. Sure, I can make 5...10...15...but the more I make the sicker of them I get. However, adulthood sucks and I know I need the money. Rent, bills, food, rent, bills, food, aaaah!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: When making jewelry pieces with Polymer Clay, what have been the biggest challenges you’ve encountered? How did you deal with them to overcome them?

FrozenNote :bulletred: The making process doesn't really have difficulties - if something doesn't work out, you just try and try again until it does. It's practice and sooner or later it will work.
The actual difficulties I had (and still HAVE from time to time) were dealing with customers. I get most of my orders from the US and a lot of people don't even check where their items are being shipped from. Then a week later they start e-mailing me about how their item got lost... Some people don't even ask, they just write "I need this by tomorrow" and order. What? How am I even supposed to...what?!

Sure, there's a whole motto about how the customer is always right, but come on...

Don't get me wrong, though, I don't mean every customer. I've even made friends with some and I still talk to them every now and then!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: When you wear the jewelry you make, how do you feel that people react? Have you gotten many requests just by modeling your own designs?

FrozenNote :bulletred: It may sound ironic, but I don't wear my own jewelry. Or, well, any jewelry at all, unless it has some important meaning to me. So that's a no :)

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Out of all your beautiful work, which piece is closest to your heart, and why?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Oh wow! That's a big question! Hmm... I think I'd go with a few designs.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't pick!

From the dripping chocolate ones, I love the first one the most. I was so happy with how it came out - I was completely experimenting! It's one of my more unique pieces, with the whole realistic dripping chocolate there!

The tiny xbox was a gift for my aunt. She wanted a real xbox and, well, since I couldn't afford it... :D What I really like about this one is the xbox earring holder. It came to my mind on the last minute and I'm glad it worked so well!

For the steampunk cat - well, I love cats and I love steampunk stuff! So why not, haha! This one I like for the gear-eye.

And finally, Totoro! This was an experiment as well. I didn't think that the leaves would come out so nicely and back then (I think this was made in 2011) I couldn't paint too well either, so you can imagine how happy I was with this!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Please tell us a little bit about your current projects.

FrozenNote :bulletred: I just finished my exams, so before I start moving, I just want to learn new crafts. I've just started learning amigurumi and I'd love to learn to work with leather next.
There's another thing I never shared here, or, well, anywhere - I still need to finish this huge dragon I'm making for my boyfriend. I've been making that thing for over a year now, always procrastinating... I'd like to take it to him in England finished, not in a form it is now.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: What quote inspires you most?

FrozenNote :bulletred: I don't think it will translate well but there's one I've gotten recently from my teacher:
"Don't be afraid of the void between your dreams and reality. If you were able to make a dream, you will be able to make it reality."

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: If you could give a useful piece of advice to someone who is considering diving into the world of Polymer Clay, what would it be?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Start from something simple. Whatever you do, do NOT start from making canes - the tutorials make it looks simple... IT'S NOT. Start from cakes, for example. Or cupcakes.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Any last words of wisdom you would like to share with us today?

FrozenNote :bulletred: Ah, well, there's one thought from a fortune cookie my friend brought me from the US: (which is kind of creepy about how accurate it is, because then I had just opened my shop)
"Sell your ideas - they are totally acceptable."

I still have it on my wall. Never stop being creative, folks!
