Interview with wizzoo7 :iconwizzoo7:

Thank you for taking your time with the interview for AllArtSupport.

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Hello David, please tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into the world of 3D modeling?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I live in Australia and I am 34 years old one question I do get asked about myself a lot is what does wizzoo7 mean ?.... it is simply my gamer name from back around the N64 days so I decided to use it as my internet name when I join any website it is pronounced wizz double o seven but most people call me wizz or wizzoo which I like also I got into 3D in 2003 when a friend of mine said to me  … dude you need to start making your designs in 3D it's the future! He had a copy of Cinema 4D and showed me a few basic tools to get me started and from there I have gone on to build about 80 3D concept cars

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Which are the reasons you have made an account in deviantART? What makes you stay in this community?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I started an account with Deviant Art back in 2010 and at the time it seemed like the perfect website for me to showcase my work and engage other concept car designers … it truly is an inspiring place to be here on Deviant Art and I have made many friends who I communicate with regularly

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Could you name some of your favorite artists? (Painters, musicians, writers, etc.)

wizzoo7 :bulletred: Leonardo Davinci is one of my favorite artists …..he was simply a genius that was such a pioneer in so many mediums, I love painting, drawing and mechanical objects and he was a master so how can you not be inspired , a more modern artist would be Daniel Simon he is simply in a league of his own right now and is certainly a source of inspiration through his 3D concept cars he is also a humble guy who always engages his audience and shares his experiences

Bentley by wizzoo7

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: How do you plan your 3D designs? What is your process?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I sketch out all my concepts on paper first and every now and then you design a concept that strikes you, that's when I will head into 3D and start creating the design , firstly I set the wheelbase width and height dimensions after that really I am just sculpting the shape of the car to fit , today I have a much better eye for getting the right proportions and working around a 3D model

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Which are your tools of the trade? Out of all that, what do you think is the tool you couldn’t live without?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: My tools of the trade are simple I have my 2B pencil and 2B pilot pen for sketching and at the center of everything is my 17" Macbook pro which is really where the magic happens also I can't forget about the software I need to bring my ideas to life , it is difficult to say which tool I can't live without but without my laptop I don't think I would be as inspired and get as much feedback as I do without it so I have to say my Laptop I can still sketch with Sketchbook Pro using a tablet so it really is the complete package plus I can put my headphones on and sink into my work with good music :D

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: What do you take into account when choosing the materials for your 3D models?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I like my 3D scenes to be simple and not too busy because I want the concept car to be the main focus  … so I look for materials that are fairly plain with a nice simple textures preferably as Hi-Res as possible  … I am a big fan of light and the kind of mood it can bring into a scene I also love to use a HDRI images that have sunlight because I feel the sunlight helps to create the atmosphere in the image and gives nice reflections

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: What are your thoughts about 3D printing?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I love 3D printing and the possibilities it can give artists , I recently had one of my concept cars 3D printed by a company in the USA to be used to promote that company and myself at various car shows , the end result really is worth the outlay!  … I am sure there will be a 3D print art groups popping up soon on Deviant art and around the web

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Out of all your beautiful work, which piece is the one that you’re most proud of, and why?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: The Ferrari F70 concept would have to be my proudest concept and 3D model  … that is mostly because I feel that it was a turning point for me in terms of design and how much effort I actually put into the 3D model I would say it is still the car with the most hours spent making it and creating all the renders  … I am also proud to say that design even got the attention of the design team at Lamborghini who last year offered me an internship with them so long as I had 5 years’ experience with Autodesk unfortunately I didn't have any experience so I missed out on that opportunity because they needed a guy asap  … I got to present my portfolio to them which was very cool even though I didn't get the position  … it made me realize that you gotta get out there and give it everything because big companies do look for talent on the internet!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: You’re very popular both here with almost 1000 watchers and on Facebook, with over 7,600 “likes”. How do you handle those crowds? How do you find the balance between real life vs. virtual life?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I am always happy to engage my followers and I love how loyal some of them are to my work that really drives and inspires me to keep going thanks to DA and Facebook I am still inspired to design because of the feedback I get … I think otherwise I wouldn't have progressed as fast as I have  … as far as juggling real life with the virtual life it is tough sometimes especially with children , when I have a client who needs a design finalized by a certain date it sure is crazy but you find a way usually it means staying up till 2am a few nights in a row lol

Exocarbon 6 by wizzoo7

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Where would you like to see your 3D work reaching 5 years from now?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: In 5 years I would like to see one or two of my concepts become reality and driving on the road!

Super Monaco by wizzoo7

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Is there anything in relation to 3D modeling with which you haven’t worked yet, but would love to explore?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: Animation that is something I want to explore, I know that would really take my concepts to another level

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Your quote?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: As -Martin Luther King Jr - once said "only in the darkness can you see the stars "

:bigthumb299375175:

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: If you could give a useful piece of advice to someone who is considering 3D modeling, what would it be?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: I remember when I first started I had all these ideas but had no idea how to make them because I was only new to 3D  … so keep it simple! VERY SIMPLE learn your tools by watching tutorials on your software the tools are the key to achieving the right form and saving a huge amount of time!

AllArtSupport :bulletblack: Any last words of wisdom you would like to share with us today?

wizzoo7 :bulletred: When you decide to enter into the long sometimes frustrating world of 3D ask yourself the question I am I doing this for money or fun? If it’s for fun then have fun! If it's for money then still have fun!  … after 10 years of learning and using 3D I am glad I stuck with it and persisted I never thought I would have had the opportunities I’ve had when I started. Thanks guys :)

A very talented guy, indeed.
I hope I can see a car designed by him one day, and say "hey, I knew the guy who designed this beast, back when he was a mortal man, like us" :P
Keep up the good work, Wizzoo.
